With grass paper labels, up to 30% of paper fibres are replaced by grass as a biological filler. The biggest advantage of these labels is their ecological look and feel, making them ideal for use as decorative labels for sustainable products or closure solutions for cardboard packaging. In addition, the production of grass fibres saves pulp, which means that significantly less energy, chemicals and water are consumed.
How do you save these materials and why is it sustainable?
When labels are disposed of, they usually end up in the residual materials and are then thermally utilised - i.e. incinerated. It is therefore very important from a sustainability point of view that the self-adhesive labels themselves are as sustainable as possible.
First of all, it is important to use natural, renewable raw materials. When plants grow, they absorb CO2 from the air (photosynthesis) and release oxygen, while new cells are created from the carbon.
The circular economy is also the solution. Paper fibres from used paper and old packaging can be recycled around eight times before the fibres become too short and therefore unusable for the production of new recycled paper.
In addition, the use of energy and the consumption of water also play a major role in assessing the sustainability of products. Less is more here, of course!
Not forgetting the recyclability of the products at the end of the product life cycle. If possible, the labels should not have a negative impact on the recycling process. Ideally, even the materials - usually the fibres in the case of paper labels - could be recycled in the process.
